Jonathan: "How has your work highlighting lesser known artists impacted the art work you have selected for auction at Bonhams? What are some examples of contemporary African art sales that you are most proud of at Bonhams?"
Helene: "As you know, I am quite passionate about photography, so I try to include that is much as possible. The amount of work we get is such a wide range-but there are things that I can do. For the upcoming New York sale on July 27 I wanted to add a lot of photography. Notoriously, in our industry we have auction catalogs–and the front cover lot is often thought of as “THE” top lot in terms of value, but I often find the most interesting works aren’t considered of value, because of course they are undervalued in a general sense. I like to show those pieces that might be under $10,000. Little things like this show up in the work that I do at Bonhams. I want people to learn about an artist they may not be familiar with or who is not as valued as they should be."
